present study applied to the Pond of Al-Shaheed Monument in the center of Baghdad, where four positions were selected within the pond to collect samples per month from November 2017 until July 2018. The study included the measurement of some of the physical and chemical factors of the pond water, included a qualitative and quantitative study of the phytoplankton community as well as the assessment of the quality of the pond water using some biological evidence such as Shannon diversity index, algae genus pollution index (AGPI), pollution tolerance index (PTI) and water quality index (WQI).<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993366\">The results show that the air and water temperature rates were between 17-41\u00b0C, 10-32 \u00b0C respectively and the water depth, light permeability and the turbidity rates fluctuated with different stations and seasons, ranging from 120.5-289.30 cm, 12.67-57.02 cm and 4.45-36.51 NUT. The values of electrical conductivity, total dissolved materials and salinity ranged between 3.12-8.09 microsiemens\/cm, 1.5-3.5%, 1.57-3.83 mg\/L, 6.0-14.9% respectively.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993366\">The water of the pond was characterized as being neutral in terms of pH and tended to the basal, ranging from 7.0-9.1, which recorded a rise in the values of dissolved oxygen and the biological demand of oxygen in winter and gradually decrease in the spring and autumn, and the lowest values in the summer 2.4-15.13mg\/L and 0.4-10.6 mg\/L respectively. The results also showed clear monthly changes in nitrate values that rose in winter and decreased in summer in all locations, ranging from 2.2-12.4 mg\/L, unlike phosphate rose in summer and decreased in winter 0.0033-0.5 mg\/L, while silicates recorded 25.4 mg\/L in October at the second station and the lowest value 2.7 in April at second station.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993366\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 The current study diagnosed 205 algal taxa, belonged to 67 species, of which 80 species belonged to 21 genus of Bacillariophyta that represented 39.02% of the total number for phytoplankton species algae that diagnosed in the study, distributed among 11 species belonging to centrals, 69 species belonging to the Pennales. While Chlorophyta recorded 33.66%, distributed between a species of 69 belonging to 25 genus, compared to 39 species and 14 genus to Cyanophyta with rate 19.02%. The study diagnosed 7 species for each of the two division of Euglenophyta belongs to 3 genuses with rate 3.42% for both of them. As well as Pyrrophyta was diagnosed just two genuses and formed rate 3.42%, and the Cryptophyta registered the lowest species, only 3 species were found.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993366\">The quantitative study of the phytoplankton was recorded the highest rate of total number 1853.03 cells\u00d7103\/ ml in the second position during the autumn while the lowest rate of 183.36 cells\u00d7103\/ml was recorded at the third position during the spring. The total numbers of the algae in the four study positions varied, as recorded in the second and first positions were the highest total number (3716.78, 3220.93\u00d7103 cell\/L) respectively, followed by the fourth position with total number 2603.74\u00d7103 cell\/L, the lowest recorded at the third position 2043.96\u00d7103 cell\/L. Chlorophyll -a, ( 25.09- 10.81) and Phaeophytin-a, (21.25 &#8211; 1.11). mg\/l, respectively.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993366\">The results of the indexed application showed that the quality of the ecosystem of the biological pond that target in this study had occurred between the moderate to the high pollution based on the calculated results of the indexes. Shannon diversity index having the highest rate of variation 0.94 in winter at the third position of study, while less rate of diversity (0.64) has been recorded in the summer at the first position and according to the standards of this index the biological pond water was highly pollution because all recorded values were less than (1).<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993366\">The results of AGPI index indicated that the highest value of the index (39) was recorded in the first position at the autumn, while the lowest value 14 observed in the third position at the winter. Therefore these results showed the possibility of the present pollution to high pollution according to take of sampling position because all these samples exceeded the value (20) adopted by the index except for the third position, indicating the diversity and variability of pollutant sources.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993366\">In following up the results achieved by the use of PTI, which describes water by the criteria of (4-1): (1) most pollution waters, (2) to (3) moderate pollution water and (4) least pollution water. As well as, all rates in the four positions were between the lowest values (1.80) and the highest value (2.93), and according to the criteria of this index, the study area water is moderate pollution water.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993366\">The results WQI index, which depends on the relationship with the physical and chemical properties of water, adopts other criteria for water description ranged (0-100) degrees.
