Parasitic infections in some fish species from Tigris River, At Al-Taji Beach in Baghdad province, Iraq<\/span><\/h3>\n

Abstract<\/span><\/h3>\n

The current study, 419 samples of fishes \u00a0were collected during the period from the beginning of July 2018 until the end of March 2019 of the Tigris River at the Al-Taji Beach area in Baghdad. These fishes, which belonged to 12 species included: 75 Chondrostomaregium, 56 Mesopotamichthyssharpeyi, 55 Cyprinion kais, 46 Carasobarbusluteus,45 Cyprinionmacrostomum, 35 Luciobarbusbarbulus,30 Coptodonzillii,25 Cyprinuscarpio,15 Luciobarbusxanthopterus,12 both of Planilizaabu and Arabibarbusgrypus and seven Leuciscusvorax<\/span><\/h3>\n

Fishes were externally and internally examined to recognize the different parasites. The examination showed that there were 74 species of parasites included: 31 species of Myxozoa, 40 species of the phylum Platyhelminthes which belonging to the class Monogenea involved: 22 Dactylogyrus, 16 Gyrodactylus and one species of both Paradiplozoon and Dogielius, one species of cestodea and two species of Hexanauplia<\/span><\/h3>\n

In this study, 15 species of parasites were recorded for the first time in Iraq, which included 12 species of Myxobolus involved: M.alburni,M. calcariferum,M. lussi,M. minutus,M. naffari,M. obesus,M. obpyriformis,M. rotundatus,M.szekeli,M.talievi, M. tilapiae andM. uniporusand3 species of Monogenea included Dactylogyrusoumiensis,Gyrodactylusbychowskianus and G.longiradix. Also, 36 species of fishes were recorded as new hosts for 31 species of these studied parasites<\/span><\/h3>\n

The present study showed a difference in sites of infection on or in the hosts as well as in their prevalence of infections to their fish hosts, and showed variations in numbers and types of parasite species that infected different fishes, where Arabibarbusgrypus\u00a0 was infected with the largest number of parasites (36), followed by Mesopotamichthyssharpeyi (21), Carasobarbusluteus(15), Cyprinuscarpio (14), Luciobarbusbarbulus (12), Cyprinion kais(7), Luciobarbusxanthopterus(5), both of Coptodonzillii and Cyprinionmacrostomum (4) and both of Chondrostomaregium and \u00a0Leuciscusvorax 1<\/span><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
