\nstudy for the determination of two drugs namely; chlorpheniramine maleate(CPM.) and \u00a0atenolol (ATN.) ,in their pure from and pharmaceutical preparations<\/span><\/h3>\n

first method: Oxidative coupling reaction<\/span><\/h3>\n

Based on the reaction of each drug with 2, 4-dinitrophenyl hydrazine (2,4-DNPHz) in the presence of potassium periodate and sodium hydroxide to form colored products. The absorbance values for<\/span>
\nthe formed complexes were measured at 473.5nm for chlorpheniramine maleate and 403 nm for atenolol against reagent blank.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Different variables affecting the completion of the reaction have<\/span>
\nbeen carefully optimized by varying the parameters one at a time and<\/span>
\ncontrolling all others fixed. The results show better optical characteristics<\/span>
\nfor calibration curve and statistical data under optimum conditions\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The calibration graphs are linear in the ranges of(2- 30) \u00b5g.mL-1 with molar absorptivity 1.4696\u00b4104 L.mol-1.cm-1, detection limit<\/span>
\n0.1281 \u00b5g.mL-1,limit of quantitation 0.3883 \u00b5g.mL-1 and Sandell\u02bcs\u00a0 sensitivity 0.0265 (\u00b5g.cm-2) for (CPM.), product and (1-30)\u00b5g.mL-1 with molar absorptivity 3.5\u00b4104 L.mol-1.cm-1, detection limit 0.2536\u00b5g.mL-1, limit of quantitation\u00a0 0.7686 and Sandal’s sensitivity 0.07575 (\u00b5g.cm-2) for (ATN.) product.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The stoichiometry of the formed complexes were examined<\/span>
\nadopting continuous variation (Job\u2019s) and mole ratio methods it was<\/span>
\nfound to be 1:1 (drug: reagent) for all reaction<\/span><\/h3>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No interference of the studied excipients were observed in the<\/span>
\nestimation of the cited drugs.Therefore, the proposed method was<\/span>
\napplied successfully for the determination of the two cited drugs in their<\/span>

second method : Diazotization coupling reaction<\/span><\/h3>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Based on the reaction of the studied drugs with the diazonium salt of<\/span>
\n\u03c1-nitroaniline (which prepared by the reaction of \u03c1-nitroaniline with<\/span>
\nsodium nitrite in the presence of hydrochloric acid) in alkaline medium<\/span>
\nto form colored azo- dye products. The absorbance values formed<\/span>
\nazo- dye compounds were measured at 516 nm for chlorpheniramine maleate and 514 nm foratenolol; against reagent blank.<\/span><\/h3>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The optimal reaction conditions \u00a0and\u00a0 other analytical parameters were evaluated\u00a0 . The results show betteroptical characteristics for calibration curve and statistical data under optimum conditions .<\/span><\/h3>\n
