        Adhatoda vasica Nees is an important medicinal plant known in the pharmaceutical industry all over the world. The cytotoxicity and genotoxisity of different alcoholic and aqueous extracts of this plant were studied in Allium cepa L. (Onion) root cells at different exposure periods. The plant root cells exhibited concentrations of 1%, 2%, 3%, 5% and 7.5% (Volume \/ volume) of alcoholic extract and for exposure time of 24, 48, 72 hours and concentrations of 10%, 15%, 20%, 30%, 40% (volume \/ volume) of the aqueous extract has a exposure time of 24, 48, 72 hours and Which was diluted to 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5% (volume \/ volume) and with an exposure time of 3.6 hours. The evidence of the effect of these extracts on the growth average of onion cells and Mitotic index, phase index, chromosomal aberrations and their genetic effect on DNA level were studied using RAPD (Random Amplification polymorphic DNA) method on onion root cells exposed to extracts<\/span><\/h3>\n

        The results showed that the alcoholic extract reduced the growth average of onion roots as the concentration increased. The half effective concentration of EC50% was 3%. As for the aqueous extract, the concentrations of 10%, 15%, 20%, 30% and 40% led to the cessation of Mitosis and prevented the root cells from entering the division, however the duration of exposure increased by 24, 48 and 72 hours, so the aqueous extract concentrations were reduced to 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5% and for an exposure time of 3 and 6 hours<\/span><\/h3>\n

        The results of the cytological study showed that the alcoholic extract resulted in a significant decrease in the mitotic index of onion root cells compared with the control treatment. The lowest decrease was in the two concentrations 7.5% for 24, 48 and 72 hours exposure and increased at 2% for 24 and 48 hours exposure. In the aqueous extract the mitotic index increased by 1% and for 6 hours exposure. It decreased significantly to 50% in concentration 3% and for 6 hours exposure<\/span><\/h3>\n

        The results showed an increase in the prophase index and a decrease in the other phases indices in the alcoholic and aqueous extract<\/span><\/h3>\n

        The results of cytogenetic studies showed the emergence of several chromosomal aberrations in the root cells that exposure to both extracts, the most frequent deviations were Laggard chromosome, Vagrant, Fragmented chromosome, Multipoluar, C-Metaphase, and bridges. Stickiness, Micronuclear and Irregular metaphase<\/span><\/h3>\n

        The genotoxic effects of the extracts were studied at the level of molecular genetics using the RAPD method. Ten primers were used, of which only eight gave 55 polymorphic bands, with molecular weights ranging from 140 and 2109<\/span><\/h3>\n

        It was observed that the value of GTA%, a quantitative measure that shows the variations of the lost and acquired bands in the gel after PCR results of the onion genome treated with extracts decreased in all concentrations compared to the control treatment. The alcoholic extract was isolated from the aqueous extract in the genetic relationship tree of the onion samples treated with extracts<\/span><\/h3>\n
