    The oil industries represent the backbone of the Iraqi economy. However, the corrosion occurred in the oil installations threatens the sustainability of the economy continuously and places it in front of many obstacles. Thus, this research aims to prepare a coating system that limits the problems of corrosion facing the oil sector in Iraq<\/span><\/h3>\n

    A piece of iron dimension 30 cm \u00d7 30 cm was used in this research after being cut from one of the oil tanks in the General Company for Oil Distribution in Baghdad.This piece subjected to a spectroscopic test to find out the components and type of this iron alloy. The metal alloy was found from (low carbon steel St-37).Afterwards, a series of operations such as cutting, skimming and surface hardening have been performed to produce a set of coupons dimensions (1.5 cm \u00d7 1.5 cm) and (3 cm \u00d7 3 cm).<\/span><\/h3>\n

    A three-layer coating system was synthesized. The first layer represented zinc phosphate, and the middle layer was loaded with zinc-based epoxy coating, while the top most layer consisted of a polymeric composite consisting of a mixture of unsaturated polyester resin and an epoxy resin in certain concentrations. The top most coating layer was supported by nanomaterials namely, kaolin, zinc oxide and magnesium oxide with different weight fractions 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5%.<\/span><\/h3>\n

    The top coating layer samples at were initially examined to measure their impact strength, surface hardness, and wear, without nanomaterials support. Thus was achieved to obtain the best mixing ratio between the unsaturated polyester resin and the epoxy used to form the top coating layer. Then the aforementioned three tests were repeated on the top coatings enriched with nanomaterials to determine the best weight ratios that can be utilized as a support material<\/span><\/h3>\n

    The subsequent process in this research was to apply the three coating layers to the metallic four sets of coupons of the corroded oil tank. The first group comprised the first coating layer represented by zinc phosphate, and the second group contained two layers of paint represented by the first layer and the layer of primer zinc epoxy coating, while the third group only contained the upper coating layer.The last group included the triple coating system represented by the phosphate layer, primer zinc epoxy layer, and polymeric composite layer.<\/span><\/h3>\n

    The electrochemical corrosion examination was performed by Tafel method for the manufactured sample groups, since the triple coating system significantly improved the corrosion resistance of the samples.It was found the sample that painted with triple coating layer (PBM) reduced the corrosion current of the oil tank segment from 6010 \u00a0to 162.59 . Chemical corrosion assay was performed by using immersion method fo group IV samples, and it was found that the sample (PBM) succeeded in passing the test without corrosion after (168 hours) of immersion in the corrosive medium.<\/span><\/h3>\n

    The sample of PBM was tested by the atomic force microscope to get information about the nature and roughness of the coating surface.Then, the sample was subjected to a thermal analysis test to measure the degree of glass transition which is reported to be in range of (118-150 C\u030a), indicating that the paint is appropriate for the Iraqi atmosphere. Also, the sample (PBM) recorded a clear improvement in the thermal insulation values, and the adhesion values compared with the sample that painted with triple coating layer without nano particles supporting (PBO). This demonstrating that the nano magnesium oxide supporting the system led to a significant improvement in the polymeric composite coating.<\/span><\/h3>\n
