style=\"color: #000080\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The marshes in Iraq have economic and tourism importance, the Shuwaija marsh is one of the marshes of Wasit Governorate, located east of the Tigris River. The submerged area changes seasonally and annually, the difference in this is due to rainfall, melting snow from the Iranian heights to the east, torrents coming from them and local rains.<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"direction: ltr;text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The goal of the thesis is to study the southern part of the Shuwaija Marsh, the flood water area for February and April 2019, and the decrease in the water area of the marsh\u00a0 during the dry season in July of 2019 and the changes that occurred in the marsh for the period from 1972 to 2019, and to compare the area of marsh water for the month of July 2019 with similar periods For the years ( 2005,2000,1990,1982,1972 ) and to compare the area of water for the month of April for the year 2019 (flood year) with the years (2017-2018) for its period.<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"direction: ltr;text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0A set of adjustments and corrections were made to ten scenes of the Landsat satellite for several years, where these images were taken from the Landsat-1 satellite for the MSS sensor for the year 1972, and Landsat-3 for the MSS sensor for the year 1982, Landsat-5 for the sensor TM5 for years 2005,1990, Landsat-7 for sensor (ETM + 7) for the year 2000 and Landsat-8 for sensor OLI for the years (2017-2018-2019).<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"direction: ltr;text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">\u00a0 \u00a0 Using supervised classification &#8211; Maximum Likelihood Classification (MLC) &#8211; to classify these images into ten subclasses (shallow water, deep water, very deep water, brown plant, natural plant, light brown plant, dark soil, light dark soil, white soil, very white soil) and three main classes (water, plant, soil) according to the characteristics of the land cover by means of the ENVI Classic5.3 program, and find Results, graphs and statistics of the study area (Shuwaija Marsh).<\/span><span style=\"color: #000080\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Extracting the areas of the flooded areas from the classified images by using QGIS 3.10 on it, to show the differences and comparisons that occurred on the area of \u200b\u200bthe water bodies of the study area (Shuwaija Marsh, the southern part), and the results show the area underwater whose areas differed between (503.137 km<sup>2<\/sup>) as the highest value in the flood of April 2019 and (17.559 km<sup>2<\/sup>) the lowest value during February 2017.
